Start Where You Are. Yes, Even If You're a Few Years Late. (2 min read)
Let’s talk about that little gremlin called doubt, the one that whispers, “It’s too late,” “You’re not ready,” or “Just wait until Monday.” Spoiler alert: Monday never shows up with less laundry or more free time.
This week, I was reminded how easy it is to let fear and procrastination steal our momentum. My son Knox, who has played several seasons of flag football, finally made the leap to tackle football this past fall. If you're wondering why the delay, well… He was nervous and hi, former employee of a football gear company here. I’ve seen what happens when safety takes a backseat, so I wasn’t exactly shoving him toward the line of scrimmage.
But this fall, he suited up. He hit the field. And now, almost daily, I get a dramatic monologue from the boy like, “Mom, I wish I had started earlier. I’d be so much better by now. I’d probably be in the NFL.” (Okay, maybe not exactly that… but close.)
What he’s learning, though, is that progress isn’t about when you start. It’s about starting at all. Every week he’s faster. Stronger. Breaking his lifting personal records like it’s his part-time job.
And it got me thinking, how often do we let hesitation keep us stuck?
Whether it’s starting a new sport, changing careers, starting a family or finally buying or selling that house you’ve been thinking about for years… waiting for the “right” time can keep you in the same spot forever.
So here’s your permission slip to just start where you are. Imperfect, unprepared, unsure, but ready enough to take the next step.
And if that “next step” has anything to do with real estate in Livingston County or beyond, I’ve got you. We can sprint, jog, or crawl toward your goals, but we’re not standing still.
Because life’s too short for maybes. And first string isn’t guaranteed to the people who waited. It’s earned by the ones who showed up, even if they were a little late to the game.
Ready to stop waiting? Let’s talk.
