Living in the Heart of It All

Last weekend, my husband and I took a quick trip up north to Higgins Lake. Just 2.5 hours from our home in Brighton. We stayed with friends who have a home right on the water, and they were hosting their monthly Dinner Club.

Now, before you picture a stuffy, candlelit supper with a group of people politely discussing weather patterns and HOA rule, let me stop you there. This crew is young, fun, loud in the best way, and full of life. The kind of people who bring their own party, their own cocktails, and somehow turn a casual dinner into a weekend highlight reel. The kids ran wild, the adults laughed and played games well passed midnight, and phones were mostly ignored, unless someone was queuing up their ‘’at bat/intro song" (Hey Siri, play Pop, Lock & Drop It).  A lost art, if you ask me.

Anyway, after arriving and settling into lake life within minutes, it hit me: we’re so lucky to live in a place where these magical Michigan moments are just a short drive away.

Living in Livingston County means weekend trips to Traverse City wineries, dune rides at Silver Lake, or ferry rides to Mackinac Island are all totally doable. Want to chase a sunset in Saugatuck or Grand Haven? You’ll be there before your playlist runs out. Football games at Spartan Stadium (GO GREEN) or the Big House? Practically in our backyard. And if you're craving city energy, Detroit is just down the expressway for date night, concerts, or a Tigers game.

People love to say Livingston County is "in the middle of nowhere." But let me reframe that for you, it's actually in the middle of everywhere worth going.

This Week’s Thought Starter:
If you had a day to spare and could just jump in the car, no packing, no plans where would you head first?

P.S. What would your ‘At Bat’ song be?
